Renewable energy generation (EA owned/operated)

Kooragang Island Wind Turbine Singleton Solar Power Station Sydney Superdome Solar Power Station

EnergyAustralia owns and operates a small portfolio of renewable energy generators. All of the generators were leaders in the field when constructed, with the Singleton Solar Farm still one of the largest solar generators in the southern hemisphere. It alone produces enough electricity each year to power about 70 homes. EnergyAustralia also wholly owns and operates a single wind turbine at Kooragang Island near Newcastle, NSW, which produces 600,000 kWh of electricity a year.

In total EnergyAustralia produced 1,332,034 kW hours of renewable energy between July 2004 and June 2005. This renewable energy saved approximately 1,211 tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere, equivalent to removing 350 cars off the road*. The complete portfolio of EnergyAustralia owned and operated generators is listed below:

Site Capacity (Size) (kW)
Kooragang Wind Turbine Generator 600
Singleton Solar Power Station 408
Sydney Superdome Solar Power Station 70
Homebush Depot (solar) 11
National Innovation Centre, Redfern (solar) 10
Foreshore Park, Newcastle (Solar) 7

An average home uses 8,000 kWh per annum.

* Refers to a small family car with the equivalent of a 1.6L engine driving 15,000km per year which would emit 0.23kg of CO2 per km.
